SEA KAYAK WEEK AT ABEL TASMAN NATIONAL PARK

Date: 03-09/09/12
Mission: Abel Tasman Sea Kayak Trip
Crew: Ari, Alice, Lenny, Ru, Ambrose, Zenzi, Dylan, Jake, Julia and I.
Weather: Mostly fine. Some rain on Thursday night and overcast drizzle on Friday.
Plot: Our tech trip up to Abel Tasman National Park was awesome times. We learnt the basics of paddling and catering and guiding requirements. The weather was mostly great with the Kahurangi Range blocking the northwest storm that lashed the coast all week. We had four nights in the park at various beach campsites. Highlights included seeing a family of 4-5 orca whales swim past us on the second day followed by a random pilot whale who was trying to break into the group. Also had a bit of bigger swell paddling through the "MAD MILE" on the way home. The group was great and some good leadership skills were learned during the week.. Our instructors were Taz and Philly J who provided some great knowledge and entertainment value. All in all I think I'll be doing a lot more sea kayaking in future as it's a great way to travel a coast and see some good country.
